SEE ME-Steampunk Assemblage

Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God's handwriting.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

SEE ME...........Created By Amy Maisel.......Mixed Media Assemblage with bought and found, new and old objects!!!

I found this box at Goodwill and couldn't wait to do a mixed media shadowbox piece with it. I then found these funny little glasses at the dollar store....and well the wheels started a-turning. I used a lot of Tim Holtz stickers and other scrapbook papers I had and decoupaged them to the box. The inside of the box is paper towels dyed with Walnut inks and decoupaged! I used microbeads, varnish and acrylics, gel medium to give the piece an older look. I also added a lot tidbits I have been collecting over the last 15 years. This piece was really fun to make in the midst of the Steampunk craze right now...I thought I would jump in and give it a try!!!!

"A little bit of my spirit"......By Amy Maisel.........Mixed Media

I had the opportunity to take a fantastic ArtDoll class in New Mexico this summer. There, I connected to a fantastic woman by the name of JEAN...A.K.A. RAVEN! Well, she has woken me up in terms of how to view myself as an artist (I kind of lost it for awhile). Anyway, she had the chance to see my artwork and commissioned me to do some pieces for her. I was apprehensive at first, then I even tried to give her the artwork, but, she explained to me that I need to look at myself as a serious artist who has something to share.... A little piece of my Spirit! I can do this with my art. I made her a wire Raven...Because she is a mysterious and Sly Raven! I made her a chicken because she loved one I had made for "MYSELF", and I made her a driftwood spiritdoll because she connected to it. So, what I have learned is to start sharing my art and put myself out there. I have been hiding for too long!!! Thank you Jean...Love you SisterFriend!!!

Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.

I love this little shop in downtown Mesa called MYSTIC PAPER and they have cool classes all the time. Anyway, I saw this Perpetual Calendar class over a year ago and have been wanting to take it and, well, here I am I finally did it! Funny thing is I signed up for it a week before the class on a Whim!! Well, I have no regrets!!! The instructor is the most awesome person ever...she is so warm, generous, fun and sweet!!! I love her designs that she comes up with and she collects all these fun fiddles for each and every calendar!!!!! I can't wait to make some of these for gifts!!!! THankS SHirlEY!!!!!
