Four Elephants

Animal Power Meanings: Elephant = Commitment.
Elephants can teach us the power of gentleness, commitment, and communication in relationships. They are deeply committed to all creatures with whom they have relationships, are powerful when protecting others and gentle in nurturing them. The matriarch of a herd practices leadership in a way that is both gentle and inclusive. Elephants' ability to communicate telepathically can teach us how to truly listen to others.

FOur Elephants........By Amy Maisel.................Acrylic on Wood

I love elephants, I have collected a few elephant statues over the years, got an elephant tattoo, drew many elephant pictures and now I did this piece. I actually started it over a year ago....I drew it out and painted the background around the elephants. I put it away for awhile though because I just didn't know what to do with it. I guess it wasn't calling me until a month ago. I saw it sitting in the corner and it just wanted some color. I love painting in bright colors and then taking it down with stain, or brown paint. It gives it a folk art quality to it.
The space above my kitchen cabinets was the perfect place for this piece. There are four people in my family....My husband, two children and I. We are all strong, nurturing, protective and intuitive....especially with each other.That is what this piece represents!!!!

God is really only another artist. He invented the giraffe, the elephant and the cat. He has no real style, He just goes on trying other things.

Happy Floral Painting

A Prayer in Spring
Robert Frost

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers today;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfill.

Happy Florals.....by Amy Maisel.....Acrylics on Assembled Wooden Canvas

I love to look at Home magazines for inspiration. I found a gorgeous living room with a vintage floral painting on wood. Well, I had to make something similar. I love how it turned out. I distressed the wood and used Happy colors to make the painting pop! It looks great on my upstairs hallway, you can see it from the front door!

Art For a Friend

Birds.....Made by Amy Maisel....Cut wooden boards painted with Acrylics and distressed.

My Friend moved into a new home recently and she wanted me to paint something for her office. She gave me some cool postcards for inspiration, and this is what I came up with! I love them....I just need to get a pic of her office with it hanging up!!!!!

Numbers

“Originality exists in every individual because each of us differs from the others. We are all primary numbers divisible only by ourselves.”
~Jean Guitton

Number's 1-9.....Made by Amy Maisel....Cut wooden plaques painted with Acrylics

I was inspired by some number art I saw in a magazine and thought it would be fun to make these and I had a perfect place on my wall!!! I love folk art and these have that feel to them. I love taking simple ideas, and making art from them. My color palette is simple, I use mostly primary colors (the brighter the better) and then I tone that down with brown. Fun!!!
