A Dog's Life

A Dog's Life

It's a dogs life!
What fun to play all day.
To dig holes & bury bones
and have a safe little nap
in my house!
Woof!

A Dog's Life....by Amy Maisel.....Gouache Watercolor

When I painted this little picture we had a Bassett Hound named "BLUE"....well he was anything, but blue!!! He was very colorful indead! He howled at everything and buried every bone we gave him....HE would even try to bury them in the corners of the INSIDE of the house!!!!! Then after a very active day when we had had enough of him.....he would take a nap....and look ever so peaceful!!!! UUUUUuuuuuuggggghhhhh! Naughty dog!!!

Gypsy Story Stones

Gypsy
Broke my heart on the road
Spent the weekend sewing the pieces back on
Crayons and dolls pass me by
Walking gets too boring when you learn how to fly

‘Cause I’m a gypsy, are you coming with me?
I might steal your clothes and wear them if they fit me
Never made agreements just like a gypsy
And I won’t back down ‘cause life’s already bit me
And I won’t cry, I’m to young to die if you’re gonna quit me
‘Cause I’m a gypsy, ‘cause I’m a gypsy

"Gypsy Story Stones"...........by Amy Maisel........River Stones, Wire, Acrylics, Fibers, Beads

I saw some river stones on a walk one day and thought of ways I could incorporate them into my art! Well, I collected a few and they sat in my studio for quite awhile! I don't know when I came up with the idea, but I went into a Frenzy making them on New Year's Day/Week!!!! I really love how they look, all scrappy and tattered, yet, Colorful and fun!!!! They all can tell a story!!!

FAMILY

A family
is made of love and tears,
laughter and years.
It grows stronger
with the passing of time.
More precious
with the making of memories.

sometimes a family is made of ones
you don't like for a while.....
But you love for a life time.
It's a gift whose value is found
Not in numbers but in its capacity
to love.

It's the place you find
someone to encourage you.
believe in you.
Celebrate with you and comfort you.
A family is where your heart
feels most at home because you're
Always wanted, always welcomed,
Always needed,
Always Loved.

F.A.M.I.L.Y. Artbooks........by Amy Maisel........Paper, fiber, photos, cardboard

I made these two albums for my parents using a template I found at HobbyLobby. I traced an actual book onto cardboard cereal boxes and then used various decorative papers, stickers, photos and fibers to decorate them.

Bird Bench

Be as a bird perched on a frail branch that she feels bending beneath her, still she sings away all the same, knowing she has wings.
~Victor Hugo

Painted Bench.......painted by Amy Maisel......Acrylic Paint

I went into this cute little furniture shop named Sweet Potatoes. I started talking to the owner about how I find furniture at thrift shops and even on the curb and refurbish or paint them. On a whim, she told me to take one of her benches home, paint it and bring it back and she will sell it....well here is the result!!!

Clay Creations........by Amy Maisel........Clay, Wire, Acrylic Paint, Fibers

I love making little things that just make you smile when looking at them....They inspire imagination of whimsical little stories. I have always liked "childlike" art and I think that reflects in a lot of the art I make!!!!!

Mermaids

The Little Mermaid ~Hans Christian Anderson
A little sea princess, longing to be human, trades her mermaid's tail for legs, hoping to win the love of a prince and earn an immortal soul for herself.

"Cloth Mermaid"......by Amy Maisel......Mixed Fibers

My art group did an "art bag swap" in September 2010. We switched the bags and then had 3 months to make an artdoll out of the items in the bag for the person whose bag we got. It was a "Secret Santa" Project for Christmas. I made this artdoll into a mermaid because the items in the bag screamed at me to become a mermaid....And Merry Chrismas to Diane...here is your Mermaid!!!

Save The TaTa's

Compassionately Pinkki.......by Amy Maisel........Mixed Media Art Doll (Clay, Fibers, Acrylics, Wood, paper, wire).

In October 2010, I made this art doll to put up for auction for Breast Cancer Awareness. My dear friend Rose and Gallery 225 hosted it. I belong to an art group called the Fabric Floozies and we all pitched in to help out this great cause!!!
